Todd Akin, the GOP candidate for the U.S. Senate in Missouri, today called for an "immediate suspension" of foreign aid to Egypt.

His statement:

"Any ally is expected to protect a nation's embassies and in this they have failed.

"The fact that this occurred on September 11th suggests that the attacks were planned and not spontaneous.

"In addition, Americans consider the repeated burning of our flag a fundamental insult. We are not going to pay Egypt to burn our flag.

"Until the Egyptian government takes corrective action to restore its relationship with the United States, we believe that our foreign aid to Egypt should be immediately suspended."
