Former Missouri state senator Victor Callahan has been appointed as a state tax commissioner by Gov. Jay Nixon. Both are Democrats.
The post, subject to Senate consideration, is a full-time job. The job pays $105,069.
The three-member commission "supervises assessment and equalization practices, conducts hearings for individual cases from local Boards of Equalization, assesses railroad and utility distributable property, and determines the level and quality of assessments in 114 counties and the City of St. Louis," the governor's office said in a statement.
Callahan could not be reached for comment.
