City Council’s Super Bowl

The Kansas City Star

Mayor Sly James led the first-term council members against the second-termers at Monday night's inaugural council bowling match at AMF Lanes in the Northland.

It was a scene we never saw under former Mayor Mark Funkhouser -- council members just hanging out with the mayor, having fun together. Each team had custom-made bowling-shirts.

The mayor's team, "Sly and the Family First-termers," (Dick Davis, Michael Brooks, Jim Glover and Jermaine Reed) bested the second-term team, "The Lane Ducks" (Ed Ford, Jan Marcason, Cindy Circo, Russ Johnson and Melba Curls) at 2 out of 3 games. But the second-termers had more total pins overall, 1617 to 1588. So each side gets some bragging rights.

Johnson had the high total with 374 over the three games. James had 341 over three games.
