GOP gubernatorial front-runner Dave Spence reported not a nickle in donations from Kansas City based on second-quarter fundraising.

Our buddy Mike Mahoney reports that Spence, a St. Louis businessman, received a couple of donations from area residents.

Democrats took note.

“It’s not surprising that a guy who voted against repaying his bank’s $40 million bailout to taxpayers would have a hard time gaining traction in Kansas City,” Isaac Wright of the Missouri Democratic Party said.

The Democrats said this was the second quarter in which Spence reported zero individual contributions from Kansas City.

In contrast, the party said that Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon received 1,403 contributions this cycle (20% of his total contributions) from the Kansas City region of Missouri.
