Huelskamp offers farm bill video — leaves out vote against it

The Kansas City Star

Kansas GOP freshman Tim Huelskamp has issued a new video (attached below) about the failure to pass a reauthorization of the farm bill.

"They forgot Harry Reid controls one half of Congress," the narrator says, referring to White House complaints about the lack of a new farm bill. "And they certainly forgot they have no farm bill."

The narrator doesn't tell you that Reid's half of Congress -- the Senate -- has passed a farm bill, which the administration says President Barack Obama would sign.

All four local senators -- Republicans Jerry Moran, Pat Roberts, and Roy Blunt, along with Democrat Claire McCaskill -- voted for the Senate farm bill.

The hang-up is the House, where Huelskamp serves. The House has not passed a farm bill, in part because Huelskamp voted against it in the House Agriculture Committee.

The Senate did not take up an emergency assistance bill the House approved in late July. Democrats said the assistance would be a part of the farm bill itself, which the House has never voted on.
