JEFFERSON CITY | Rep. Jason Holsman raised more than $40,000 over the last three months and has $51,735 cash on hand for his campaign for the Democratic nomination for 7th Senate distict in Kansas City.
Holsman, who filed his campaign finance report with the Missouri Ethics Commission Monday, also picked up the endorsement of John Burnett, a former state representative who originally intended to run for the Senate seat himself. Holsman said Burnett will serve as the campaign's general counsel.
With the filing deadline coming tomorrow, Holsman is currently one of only two candidates officially in the race. The other, Republican Sen. Jane Cunningham of Chesterfield, only filed in the district in the hopes the map would be reworked and the 7th District would be moved from Kansas City back to the St. Louis suburbs where she lives.
Cunningham has said she will consider running for Congress or for a statewide office.
Jackson County Legislator Crystal Williams told the Star last week that she will file for the race tomorrow. She announced her intentions to run earlier this month.
