Take a look at the mail piece to the right. It was paid for by the Kansas Chamber PAC, and is aimed at Barack Obama and his alleged ties with Kansas 17th district state House candidate Larry Meeker.
It claims Meeker supports a "liberal agenda," including, as you can see, "$700 million in cuts to Medicare."
In 2011, Medicare's actuaries say, the program cost $549 billion. A $700 million cut would amount to a reduction of Medicare spending of a bit more than one-tenth of one percent in one year.
Obamacare, known by some as the Affordable Care Act, will reduce estimated Medicare spending by $700 billion over ten years, or roughly $70 billion annually. Usually, Republicans accuse Democrats of the $700 billion (or $716 billion) number.
Not, apparently, the Kansas Chamber.
Meeker is an independent candidate, not formally affiliated with either major party.
