Sen. Jolie Justus, a Kansas City Democrat, was chosen by her party this week to be minority floor leader of the Missouri Senate.
Justus, who is halfway through her second and final term in office, will act as the legislative leader of the 10-member Democratic caucus. Republicans control 24 seats in the Senate. Despite being outnumbered by the Republicans, Justus sees an important role for her party.
"We will work to find areas where we agree," Justus said, "and in areas where we disagree we'll have to stop things from happening or mitigate what we consider to be bad policy."
Justus was elected in 2006 to represent Kansas City and Grandview. She is the director of pro bono services for the law firm of Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP.
