Secretary of State Kris Kobach's new political action committee raised nearly $20,000 this year while doling out campaign contributions to various conservative candidates.

Kobach's PAC -- called Prairie Fire -- raised $19,675 with most of the money coming from a handful of campaign contributors.

Washer Specialities Co. of Wichita gave the PAC $5,000. Robert Hodgdon of Shawnee gave $5,000 while J.B. Hodgdon of Overland Park gave another $2,500. Five thousand bucks came from Carol Dengel of Overland Park and John G. Lewis of Lenexa contributed $1,000.

No money came from any of the immigration groups that Kobach is associated with outside the state.

The PAC gave $1,000 to Rep. Anthony Brown's campaign for state Senate. The PAC also gave $1,000 each to conservative Senate candidates Jeff Melcher, Jim Denning, David Harvey and Joe Patton.

Melcher is running against Rep. Pat Colloton of Leawood. Denning is running against incumbent Sen. Tim Owens of Overland Park. David Harvey is running against Rep. Kay Wolf of Prairie Village and Patton is running against Vicki Schmidt of Olathe.
