Republicans to nominate Romney Monday

The Kansas City Star

The schedule for the Republican National Convention in Tampa next week calls for delegates to cast votes for president and vice president Monday afternoon, around 5 p.m. Kansas City time.

That's not only out of prime time, but much earlier than usual. Typically the nomination votes have come on Wednesday of convention week.

There are 30 Rick Santorum delegates from Kansas and 7 Mitt Romney delegates. So far Santorum hasn't released his delegates, although that could happen soon.

In Missouri there are 31 Romney delegates, 13 Santorum delegates, 4 Ron Paul delegates, and one Newt Gingrich delegate (Gingrich released his supporters this week.)

Three of the four Missouri Paul delegates are from the 5th congressional district -- the Kansas City area.

Three delegates from each state are officially uncommitted, although they'll almost certainly be cast for Romney.

Forecasters say tropical storm Isaac should have moved across Florida by the time the votes are cast.

We'll see.
