Hawver's Capitol Report reported today that the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission has scheduled a fine hearing in September for state Rep. Greg Smith, an Overland Park Republican.
Smith a conservative who won the August primary for Senate District 21 against Joe Beveridge, is charged with soliciting campaign contributions while the Legislature was in session. That's prohibited by law.
Smith faces Juanita Roy, D-Lenexa, in the general election for the seat.
The hearing will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 19. Fines of up to $5,000 are possible.
