Strike state Sen. David Haley from the list of potential candidates seeking to replace Joe Reardon as mayor and chief executive of Wyandotte County.

"After much consideration and with the unique challenges Kansas faces statewide now, I cannot abandon my commitment to continue representing the people of Wyandotte County at the state level," Haley said in statement released Saturday.

Haley, a Kansas City, Kan., Democrat, ran for mayor unsuccessfully twice before.

So far, five candidates have filed: Nathan Barnes, Mark Holland, Cordell Meeks III, Ann Murguia and Janice Witt.

The filing deadline is Tuesday. The primary election is Feb. 26, and the general election is April 2.
