Kansas Congressman Kevin Yoder today presented a check for $120,000 to House Speaker and requested the money be used to pay down the national debt.
Yoder was joined by several Republican House freshmen at a press conference this morning where they turned in unused office funds.
Yoder and his House colleagues had already passed a budget that included a 5 percent cut to office funds for both 2011 and 2012. The returned funds of $120,000 are in addition to these existing budget cuts.
Said Yoder: “Our country has a crippling national debt of over $15 trillion. We must make tough decisions to change the way taxpayer money is spent in Washington. I’m happy to return these unused office funds to the Speaker in order to help pay down our nation’s debt."
