A Jackson County legislative district committee tonight elected Brandon Ellington to be the Democratic nominee for the vacant 41st District state House seat.
The seat, long controlled by Democrats, was held by Kiki Curls, who has since moved to the state Senate.
The election for the seat will be Nov. 8. Ellington ran for a seat on the Kansas City Council this year, but was defeated by incumbent Melba Curls.
Last week, another district committee picked Judy Morgan to be the nominee for the vacant 39th District seat vacated by Jean Peters Baker, now the Jackson County prosecutor.
